Today Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group was given the green light to become a statutory organisation that will buy healthcare for the 290,000 living in the local area. As part of changes happening across the NHS, groups of clinicians (known as Clinical Commissioning Groups) have completed a robust authorisation process that considers whether they are ready to become NHS organisations in their own right. Today’s announcement means Surrey Downs Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has provided the assurance necessary to show it is ready to commission healthcare on behalf of local people – and it is ready to become a statutory organisation and take on its full legal responsibilities. Commenting on the news Chief Officer Miles Freeman said: “We all put a great deal of work into our authorisation process so I am delighted that the NHS Commissioning Board has recognised that we are ready to become a statutory organisation. “There is still more work to be done and as with many other CCGs, we have been asked to provide further assurance in several areas." Clinical Chair Dr Claire Fuller added: “We have come an incredibly long way in a very short space of time and today’s news reflects the huge amount of work our staff and GPs have put into establishing Surrey Downs CCG, with clinicians at the forefront of commissioning. “As local clinicians we know what works well and where there are opportunities to improve care for our patients. Today’s announcement gives us the go-ahead to start driving forward these improvements, keeping patients, carers and families at the heart of everything we do.” Surrey Downs CCG Pascal Place Randals Way Leatherhead KT22 7TW |
